The symptoms associated with allergies are something that can make your life quite bothersome. Luckily, there are some options when it comes to dealing with your allergy symptoms. When doing chores that could bother your allergies, wear a face mask. This may include dusting, vacuuming and lawn work. Avoid line-drying your clothing, or linens if you suffer from allergies, especially during the spring. While the smell and feel of fresh, line-dried laundry can be a treat. It can also make you miserable when you bring in pollen from outdoors. Use the clothes dryer when pollen levels are at their peak.

Understand the fundamental differences between irritants and allergens. Exposure to an allergen provokes a physical reaction in your body in response to an unnatural protein. Irritants include things like paper dust, chemical fumes, perfume and cigarette smoke. These substances are irksome, but they do not carry an actual health risk, most of the time.

If you are allergic to pollen, and you need to control how much of it is in your home, you should change your bedding weekly. When you wash it, you should wash it in hot water to help remove the pollen. You should also take a shower before bed so that you can wash away the pollen that accumulates in your hair during the day.

Avoid carpeting or using rugs whenever and wherever possible. They attract large quantities of pollen and dust. If you enjoy having rugs in your home to add color and softness, be sure that they are washable so you can keep allergens at bay.

Pay attention to the pollen count reports. Since pollen counts report how many grains of pollen were counted in a specific area, over a specific time frame, they could be used to determine how much pollen is floating around in the air on the given day. This could be used to determine how much time you might want to spend outside.

If you enjoy the outdoors but avoid going out because you suffer from allergies, consider spending time outside after the rain. Rain helps minimize the amount of pollen that is found in the air. So you will find the least amount of pollen after a nice rain storm has passed through.

If you like the scent of fresh laundry dried outdoors, think about using a detergent that is lightly scented or a fabric softner. Leaving your wet clothes outside can give them a nice aroma. But, you are also allowing spores and pollen to get on your clothing. This solution is only suitable for those with no fragrance or dye sensitivity.
